BRIEF HISTORY OF CUMBERLAND CHURCH
Just as Jesus is irresistible, the local church should be irresistible. Our desire was to create a church that would be people’s number one option on Sunday morning; first, because of what we do and ultimately because of what we believe.
The vision for our church took shape in the summer of 2006 when Eddie Johnson, our senior pastor, felt God’s leading to start a church for those who do not attend church. Eddie and his wife, Karen, had been praying for a number of years about returning to Nashville where they spent the early part of their marriage. After much prayer and wise counsel, they became convinced of God’s leading to start a strategic partnership of North Point Community Church (Alpharetta, GA) in the Nashville area. Eddie began the recruitment process and the church launched with a staff team of three families committed to the mission of leading people into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ.
On February 11, 2007, Cumberland Church held its first service at the Marriott Hotel in Franklin, TN. Shortly thereafter, the church found a new home at The W, a private concert venue in Franklin. Then, in September 2007, the church moved again to its current 24/7 facility at 415 Franklin Road, Franklin, TN. With God’s clear leadership thus far, we are excited to what He continues to do through Cumberland Church to lead people into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ.
