Missions
We are often asked about our involvement in the community and world missions. For example, we might hear, "What does Cumberland Church do for underprivileged children or for the homeless?" Or, “What is Cumberland Church’s vision for meeting the physical and spiritual needs of people around the world?” These are great questions and ones that we do not take lightly. Our team here at Cumberland has had numerous conversations about this subject, studied it, prayed about it and sought wise counsel as to how God would want us as a church to respond most effectively to the needs and challenges before us. Listed below is a summary of our thoughts and a plan of action we developed from our convictions and counsel.
First (and most importantly), we hold firmly to the idea that our church and our ministry is “not about us”. Cumberland Church is not the only ministry or local church God is using to do His work and advance the Kingdom. We’re just a member of the greater Body of Christ and humbled that He allows us serve and represent Him here in middle Tennessee. And because “it’s not about us”, we want to be investing and partnering with other ministries that are seeing people come into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ as well.
In response to that conviction, the Leadership Team here at Cumberland Church has made a strategic commitment to send back out 10% of whatever comes through our doors to other ministries that are passionately committed to seeing life-change as well. As a new church, that is a tall order and a huge step of faith for us. But we believe God wants us to model what we are asking from all of our members... to trust God with our finances and to be very generous and strategic with our giving.
Here is a list of the missions partners we are currently supporting:

| North Point Ministries – Church Planting |
|
North Point Ministries (NPM) is partnering with start-up churches called strategic partners, who are independent of NPM, but use North Point’s mission, strategy, core values, environments, and video messages. NPM’s vision is for starting strategic partners churches that give communities across the globe the opportunity to experience irresistible churches to those attending who will in turn want to invite their unchurched family and friends. Currently, NPM has 17 strategic partner churches with plans for 30+ more over the next couple of years. Their goal is to see over 15,000 people from these partner churches committed to a small group environment. We’re excited to be a part of the North Point family and on mission with them to plant new churches that are passionately following our ministry model.

Cumberland Church has also made a strategic decision not to replicate ministries that are already doing an excellent job meeting specific needs. Instead, we have chosen to funnel human and financial resources into a handful of organizations that are doing a far better job within their spheres of influence than we could ever do. Below you will find our current list of what we refer to as Compassion Ministries. By clicking on a name, you will be taken directly to the ministry's website.
(Please note: If you find an organization that is addressing a need that captures your heart, please contact it directly to find out about the opportunities for personal ministry. And don't forget to consider how your community group can get involved as well!) |
