Missions

We are often asked about our involvement in the community. For example, we might hear, "What does Cumberland do for underprivileged children?" Or, "How is Cumberland involved in caring for the homeless?"

These are good questions.

Several years ago we made a decision not to replicate ministries that are already doing an excellent job meeting specific needs in our community. Instead, we have chosen to funnel human and financial resources into a handful of organizations that are doing a far better job within their spheres of influence than we could ever do.

Below you will find our current list local organizations to which we have aligned. These organizations are doing a needed work in our community and our goal is to serve those who serve our community.

If you find an organization that is addressing a need that captures your heart, please contact it directly to find out about the opportunities for personal ministry. And don't forget to consider how your entire community group can get involved.

Here is a list of the missions partners we are currently supporting:

Mercy Ministries
http://www.mercyministries.org

Mercy Ministries is a Christian organization that provides hope and healing to generations of desperate young women who are seeking freedom from life-controlling problems such as: drug & alcohol addictions, depression, eating disorders, unplanned pregnancies, physical & sexual abuse and self-harm.  They have homes in 8 US cities and in 5 other countries around the world. All of their services are free of charge and serve a diverse population of young women from various socio-economic backgrounds aged 13-28.

African Leadership

http://www.africanleadership.org/

African Leadership is striving to make a difference on the often forgotten continent of Africa, by providing hope, one leader ... one family... one child at a time. They are currently discipling nearly 10,000 pastors and church leaders in 22 African nations. The classrooms range from “under a tree” in the war-torn corners of Sudan to the most densely populated Kibera slums of Nairobi, Kenya.

Cumberland Church has also made a strategic decision not to replicate ministries that are already doing an excellent job meeting specific needs. Instead, we have chosen to funnel human and financial resources into a handful of organizations that are doing a far better job within their spheres of influence than we could ever do. Below you will find our current list of what we refer to as Compassion Ministries.  By clicking on a name, you will be taken directly to the ministry's website.

(Please note:  If you find an organization that is addressing a need that captures your heart, please contact it directly to find out about the opportunities for personal ministry. And don't forget to consider how your community group can get involved as well!)
